When your business sends packages to customers through the United States Postal Service, shipping labels present a more professional appearance, are quicker to create for several packages and eliminate any misunderstandings due to illegible handwriting. Unless you weigh your package, you will not have any idea of the needed postage. You do not have to incorporate the cost of postage into your label, if you use Microsoft Word.
Step 1
Run Microsoft Word and click the “Mailings” tab to display the Mailing ribbon. Click “Labels” in the Create panel to launch the Envelopes and Labels dialog box.
Step 2
Select the “Labels” tab and click the “Options” button to display the Label Options dialog box.
Step 3
Click “Page Printers” and from the “Tray” drop-down, choose the tray to which you are feeding the shipping label sheet. Then, choose the manufacturer of your paper from “Label Vendors” and the name of the product you are using under “Product Number.” Confirm that you’ve chosen the correct option by looking at the specifications listed under Label Information. Click the “OK” button to save your choices and close the Label Options dialog box.
Step 4
Click inside the Address box of the Envelopes and Labels dialog box. Then type the information you would like on the shipping label, such as the return address of your business, and the delivery location of your customer. To change the appearance of the text, select the text and then right-click on it. Choose “Font” to change the font and size, and choose “Paragraph” to define the alignment and spacing. Click the “OK” button to save your definitions.
Step 5
Choose “Full Page” under Print, if you want a full page of the same label. Otherwise, choose “Single Label” and specify the Row and Column location of the sheet.
Step 6
Insert the label sheet with the correct orientation. The printer documentation will explain this information.
Step 7
Click the “Print” button to print your shipping label.
